Offshore group taking on new territory off the coast of central Africa
CARENCRO, La. – Nov. 9, 2020 – OMNI Environmental Solution’s Gulf of Mexico-based environmental cleaning company, Trussco, is sending a 10-man cleaning crew to work on a platform off the coast of Equatorial Guinea in central Africa. It will be the first time an OMNI company has performed environmental services internationally.
“We see this as a gateway for us to expand our services internationally,” Chief Commercial Officer Joey Shaw said.
The crew, led by Operations Manager Dallas Hodge will work on Noble Energy’s Alen platform, 6,800 miles from Port Fourchon.
Noble’s Alen Gas Monetization project is a major venture with Marathon Oil and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to develop gas resources from the liquids-rich Alen field. Production wells on the platform are being modified as part of the project and that’s where Trussco comes in.
“Before any construction can take place, all the massive separators and vessels have to be cleaned of all hydrocarbons,” Shaw said. “International vessel cleaning had not been on our radar, but it is now.”
It took months of preparation to get the crew ready to go. From travel vaccines to COVID protocols, HSE and operations worked together to get all i’s dotted and all t’s crossed.
“With the pandemic and international travel guidelines, we had a whole new level of safety protocols. It was a tremendous effort by our HSE and operations teams,” Shaw said.
The crew flew from Lafayette, Louisiana, to Atlanta, and traveled overseas to Paris before flying to Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea. In Malabo, they will quarantine for 14 days before traveling by helicopter to the Alen platform in the south Atlantic. Once on the platform, it will take 14 days to complete the job.
“We hope it will be the beginning of an international service line for our offshore group,” Shaw said. “Our customers have other international operations, including the big Leviathan platform in the Mediterranean off the coast of Israel. This is a prime opportunity to expand operations into new territory.”
